About

A new firm, and we would rather say so

Tarjem is a professional language services firm established in the United Arab Emirates to serve government entities, judicial and regulatory bodies, law firms, corporate legal departments, event organisers and professional congress organisers.

The firm is led by its Chief Executive Officer, who holds a doctorate in English–Arabic translation and interpreting. Linguistic governance, terminology policy and final quality authority rest with her personally, and are not delegated to project administration. That is unusual in this market, where the person selling the work and the person answerable for its quality are frequently not the same person.

Our core working pair is English–Arabic, supported by French, Spanish, Hindi, Swahili, Filipino and Vietnamese. Every written deliverable passes through a documented sequence of translation, independent revision by a second qualified linguist, and final review before release. That sequence is modelled on the structure set out in ISO 17100; we state plainly that the firm does not yet hold ISO certification.

Delivery is directed from the Emirates and executed by a dedicated production team under written confidentiality undertakings.

Tarjem is newly established. We invite scrutiny of our method rather than our history.

What we will and will not do

We tell you when we are not the right firm

If a document needs a translator registered with the Ministry of Justice and we cannot provide one, we say so and point you somewhere that can. A referral costs us one job; taking work we cannot properly deliver costs us the relationship.

We do not claim certification we do not hold

Our process is modelled on ISO 17100. We are not ISO certified, and we will not print a standard number on a proposal and hope nobody checks.

We disclose our use of automation

Where machine translation is appropriate we offer it as a labelled, cheaper tier. We never apply it silently, and there are categories of work where we refuse it outright.

We do not compete on being the cheapest

Commodity page rates in this market are set by walk-in offices competing on turnaround. That is a real business and it is not ours.
