Media & subtitling

Subtitling, voice-over scripting, campaign transcreation and social localisation — adapted for the region rather than translated at it.

Subtitling has a hard constraint that ordinary translation does not: the reader has a fixed number of characters and a fixed number of seconds. Meeting that constraint while keeping the register and the meaning is a specific craft, and it is why a translated script and a subtitle file are not the same object.

For campaign material, translating faithfully is usually the wrong instruction. A line that works in English frequently has to be rebuilt in Arabic to land at all — and told to you plainly rather than delivered as a literal rendering that technically matches the brief and fails in the market.
